Inaugural Lecture Professor Barbara Ann Halkier
Head of DNRF Center DynaMo Barbara Ann Halkier has recently been appointed Full Professor at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty Science, University of Copenhagen. The center and the department would like to invite everyone to celebrate the appointment with an inaugural lecture by Barbara Halkier. The topic of her lecture is:
Why Glucosinolates?
Glucosinolates are natural plant products found in the order Brassicales, which includes the economically important oilseed rape, vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli and radishes, and in the model plant Arabidopsis. For plants, glucosinolates protect against herbivore and microbial attacks. For humans, glucosinolates have received increased attention as cancer-preventive agents and potential biopesticides. Barbara Halkier's research is focused on glucosinolates as model specialized metabolites to study biological processes at the molecular level. During this lecture she will tell you why.
Barbara Ann Halkier has a strong track record of scientific excellence within the field of plant biology, with special focus on specialized metabolites. She has a world-leading position within glucosinolate research, including biosynthesis, regulation, transport and engineering. Barbara Ann Halkier has published around 100 articles and reviews in peer-reviewed publications and has been coordinator of a series of international research projects. Since January 2012 she heads Center of Excellence for Dynamic Molecular Interactions (DynaMo), funded by the Danish National Research Foundation. In May 2013 she became Full Professor at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, University of Copenhagen, and in December 2013, together with members of her center, she received the Innovation Award of the University of Copenhagen.
