Natural variation in root growth response to 3ohp glucosinolate: utilizing natural variation for identification of functional targets of 3ohp
Abstract
One specific glucosinolate defense compound, 3ohp, inhibits root growth in a dose-dependent and reversible manner. Exploiting natural variation in Arabidopsis, this project provided evidence that the target of 3ohp is conserved across the plant kingdom. Gene-specific association analysis linked 3ohp activity to the Target of Rapamycin complex and thereby to sugar sensing. Thus, 3ohp may provide information to the dynamic network plants use to constantly optimize their fitness and allow a rapid switch between growth-related processes and defence mechanisms.
