Summary
The PhD project encompasses elucidation of a central step in the metabolic pathways leading to the specialized plant metabolites, camalexin and glucosinolates and demonstrates metabolic engineering of these pathways into other plant species using both stable and transient engineering. This has been used to explore of future applications of these plant defense compounds to provide crop protection as well as to gain a better understanding of the enzymatic pathways leading to these compounds.
