Public Outreach

From mustard seeds to broccoli

On 9 October 2018, Barbara Ann Halkier was invited to give a public lecture at Science and Cocktails at Byens Lys, Christiania in front of a sold out house of interested people. The very attentive and engaged audience was updated about the state-of-the-art in plant science from Barbara’s own research and also about how plant scientists can contribute to the challenges we are facing in feeding people in a world with a changing climate. Specific subjects of the lecture were 'Why plants are amazing organisms? What are the health benefits of broccoli and red cabbage? How do plants interact with their surroundings? Is mustard the new robust oilseed crop? Why has mustard more potential as future crop than oilseed rape?' and 'What can agrobiotechnology do for us?
