Congratulations Ydun!
On 14 June, Ydun Kalsbeek-Hansen defended her MSc thesis in Biology-Biotechnology entitled "Harnessing beneficial microbes from Danish nature”.
Ydun’s project is aimed at advancing our understanding of the role of plant metabolites in shaping the root microbiome by identification of beneficial microbes in Danish soils. The study included field trips to diverse biotypes all over Denmark, followed by preparation of the soil for screening for plant growth promoting effects of the unsterile soils in comparison to the corresponding sterile.soils. In addition, isolated endophytic bacteria from a previously identified soil previously were identified by 16S rRNA sequencing and used for the generation of a synthetic community (SynCom). Moreover, Arabidopsis mutants were selected and genotyped for use in future mechanistic studies, in which the chemical language of plants will be elucidated. The study is part of a bigger project aimed at developing effective and safe biofertilizers, thereby contributing to the important UN sustainable developmental goals for a green transition.
Ydun was supervised by Head of DynaMo Center Professor Barbara Ann Halkier and Assistant Professor Deyang Xu.
