Associate Professor
Hussam Nour-Eldin

Associate Professor Hussam H. Nour-Eldin was hired by DynaMo in April 2012. Hussam comes from a Postdoc position at the San Diego Center for Algae Biotechnology, University of California San Diego, USA, where he was involved in a synthetic biology approach seeking to transfer abiotic stress tolerance properties between micro algae species, and in enabling homologous recombination in the model micro algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

As a PhD Student at the Department of Plant Biology at University of Copenhagen,  Hussam identified two glucosinolate transporters essential for transport of glucosinolates to seeds. This constituted an essential step in unraveling the entire transport pathway for a given plant natural compound and had valuable agricultural applicability by allowing the specific elimination of a deleterious compound from edible parts of crops. Hussam envisions to bring together his competencies within plant transport biology, protein biochemistry and microscopy to elucidate the dynamic molecular mechanisms for how plants establish and adjust their defensive perimeters according to the challenges they meet. In addition, Hussam will be exploiting the established transport protein identification platform to identify other transporters of commercial, agricultural or biological relevance.

At DynaMo Hussam will oversee research on glucosinolate transporters and their regulation. Hussam is co-supervisor for PhD students Svend Roesen Madsen, Morten Egevang Jørgensen and Bo Larsen.
