Farewell Thies - and congratulations with completion of your MSc thesis!
Yesterday, Thies Gülck had his last day as an exchange student at Dynamo.
During the period 1 November 2014 to 30 October 2015, Thies Gülck from the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena, conducted his MSc project at the DynaMo Center, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
Production of valuable compounds in microorganisms
Thies' MSc project is within the field of synthetic biology and is entitled 'Microbial Production of Glucosinolates using Synthetic Biology'. The project is multidisciplinary and includes molecular biology, genetics and metabolite profiling. Thies day-to-day supervisor was DynaMo member Assistant Professor Christoph Crocoll.
Thies project is part of a larger project, supervised by Head of DynaMo Professor Barbara Ann Halkier, aiming at bioengineering the production of glucoraphanin - a plant compund that is associated with cancer-preventive properties of broccoli - into a microbial host organism.
Active DynaMo member
During his stay at DynaMo, Thies was a fully integrated member of the center, participating in group and subgroup meetings and giving progress reports like any other DynaMo member. He was also active in the social group activities at the center, and even hosted his own quiz night.
But now the time is up, Thies year at DynaMo has come to and end. He has completed his Masters thesis and just handed it in.
