Antonina Atanasova Karakastova - new PhD student
The new DynaMo PhD student Antonina Karakostova has already been connected to the center during the past year, first as intern and since as research assistant.
The aim of Antoninas PhD project is to allow Chlamydomonas reinhardtii to take up external glucose, use it to cover its energetic needs and grow independent of a light source. In the process she also aims to develop robust molecular tools for expression of heterologous polytopic membrane proteins in the chloroplast inner envelope of Chlamydomonas. Antonina Karakostova graduated as MSc in Biochemistry from the University of Copenhagen in August 2016. In her MSc project, Antonina focused on protein science, in particular - mapping protein degradation cascades in fission yeast.
