Jakob Skytte Thorsen - new PhD student!
On 1 May 2024, Jakob Skytte Thorsen started as a PhD student at the DynaMo Center as part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation project “Harnessing genetic diversity of the novel rapeseed food crop via transport engineering” granted to Research scientist Deyang Xu.
The focus of Jakob’s project is to implement a novel transporter engineering strategy in rapeseed to address mounting challenges in crop resilience.

To this end, Jakob will use state-of-the-art techniques in molecular plant biology to investigate the potential of transporter engineering to specifically reduce the glucosinolate content in the seeds of rapeseed. This transporter engineering strategy could potentially be used to widen the gene pool of elite rapeseed cultivars, enabling the breeding of more pest resistant and climate resilient lines.
Jakob is trained in molecular plant biology and did his MSc in 2024 in the DynaMo Research Centre at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen. His MSc project focused on investigating a mechanism involved in establishing the glucosinolate profile of Arabidopsis thaliana seeds.
Jakob will be supervised by DynaMo Partners Barbara Ann Halkier and Deyang Xu.
Welcome Jakob!
