Hussam Nour-Eldin new member of The Royal Danish Academy's Young Academy

Appointment

We are proud to announce that Hussam Nour-Eldin, Associate Professor at DynaMo, has been elected as one of 8 new members of the prestigious Young Academy at The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.

The newly elected member of the Young Academy at The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, Associate Professor Hussam Nour-Eldin, does research within molecular plant biology and protein chemistry. He envisions to bring together his competencies within plant transport biology, protein biochemistry and microscopy to elucidate the dynamic molecular mechanisms for how plants establish and adjust their defensive perimeters according to the challenges they meet.

Hussam obtained his PhD degree in 2007 in Biology-Biotechnology from University of Copenhagen where he continued as a postdoc until 2010. During 2010-12 he held a postdoctoral position at San Diego Center for Algae Biotechnology, University of California San Diego, USA, in the Lab of Steve Mayfield. In April 2012 he returned to the University of Copenhagen to take up a position as Associate Professor at DynaMo, a center of excellence for Dynamic Molecular Interactions headed by Professor Barbara Ann Halkier. At DynaMo Hussam oversees research on glucosinolate transporters and their regulation. In total, Hussam has 13 publications (2 patent applications, 1 book chapter and 10 articles in international peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Nature and Plant Cell).

The Royal Academy was established in year 1742 with the approval of King Christian VI and has since then adopted only a select subset of highly esteemed Danish researchers in nearly all fields of sciences.

In year 2011, the Royal Academy established a Young Academy for the most talented Danish researchers under the age of 40. The purpose of the Young Academy is to strengthen basic research and cross-disciplinarian exchange, to build bridges between science and society and to give some of Denmark's brightest young researchers a voice in the public debate. The members are all prominent profiles with strong international experience and interesting views on science and society. Each year the Young Academy takes up eight new members and this year Associate Professor Hussam Nour-Eldin was among the chosen few.

The members of The Young Academy are granted a five-year membership.
